Full-Spectrum ODM Services

From flavour brief to frozen pallet — we handle every step. Richwood's integrated ODM platform lets bakery brands focus on sales while we engineer, produce, and ship the product behind them.

What is ODM — and How
Is It Different from OEM?

ODM (Original Design Manufacturing) means Richwood owns the entire product development process — from initial recipe concept and ingredient sourcing to formulation refinement and production scaling. You brief us on flavour direction, dietary requirements, texture targets, and target markets; we engineer the product from the ground up under your brand.

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing), by contrast, means you supply a proprietary formula and we manufacture it at industrial scale inside our certified facility. This model suits brands that already own a proven recipe but lack the capacity or certifications to produce at export volumes.

Richwood supports both models — and our co-development pathway blends the two, pairing your culinary insights with our food science expertise to create genuinely novel products that neither party could build alone. Regardless of the tier, every product ships under your brand, fully private-labelled.

Your ODM Journey: Six Steps
from Brief to Bakery

Every Richwood ODM project follows a structured six-stage process designed to eliminate ambiguity, accelerate time-to-market, and ensure your product arrives exactly as envisioned — at commercial scale.

01
Consultation

We begin with a structured discovery call to understand your product vision, target market, dietary requirements, price architecture, and volume projections. Our team provides a written project scope and indicative timeline within five business days.

02
R&D & Formulation

Our food scientists develop base formulations and conduct internal sensory evaluations. Ingredient selection prioritises both performance and supply-chain resilience. You receive a detailed formulation report outlining key parameters, allergen profile, and nutritional estimates.

03
Sampling & Iteration

Frozen dough samples are shipped to your facility at -18°C with full baking instructions. Your team evaluates texture, flavour, volume, and visual appeal. We iterate — as many rounds as needed — until you sign off on the benchmark sample.

04
Commercial Approval

Once the benchmark sample is approved, we lock the formula and production parameters. A full Certificate of Analysis (COA), allergen declaration, and shelf-life study report are prepared for your regulatory review and import authority submission.

05
Production & QA

Full-scale manufacturing runs under our HACCP production protocol with in-process quality checks at each critical control point. Every production lot is assigned a unique trace code. Third-party microbiological testing is conducted on hold-and-release samples before dispatch authorisation.

06
Cold-Chain Delivery

Products are blast-frozen, packaged under your private label, and loaded into refrigerated containers. We coordinate customs documentation, phytosanitary certificates, and FDA / FSANZ import declarations. Real-time shipment tracking is provided until delivery to your distribution centre.

ODM Frequently Asked
Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often from new and prospective partners. If your question is not covered here, our team is happy to provide a detailed response within one business day.

Ask a Question

For new ODM Full Service projects, the minimum production run is 500 kg per SKU. This threshold allows us to operate the lamination and freezing lines at the efficiency levels needed to maintain cost-competitiveness. For OEM production of your existing formula, we accept from 300 kg per SKU. Volume-discount pricing tiers begin at 2,000 kg.

A standard new ODM product — brief to first commercial shipment — typically takes 10–14 weeks. This breaks down as: 2 weeks initial consultation and scope, 4–6 weeks R&D and sampling, 2 weeks approval and pre-production preparation, and 4–6 weeks production and logistics. Rush pathways (8–10 weeks) are available for simpler product categories with an expedite fee.

Yes. Under our standard ODM Full Service agreement, full intellectual property — including the formulation, process parameters, and any unique ingredient sourcing — is transferred to your company upon final payment. We do retain the right to use anonymised process knowledge for internal R&D advancement, but we will never sell or license your specific formula to another client.

Richwood provides a standard documentation package with every export order: Certificate of Analysis (COA), Allergen Declaration, Country of Origin Certificate, and Health Certificate issued by Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare. For US FDA, FSANZ (Australia/New Zealand), EU import, and Japan Ministry requirements, our export team can prepare market-specific documentation for an additional administrative fee.

Yes. Our Taichung facility undergoes annual third-party audits for ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000 recertification. We also conduct quarterly internal audits and welcome scheduled client facility audits with a minimum 10-business-day notice. Audit reports from the past two audit cycles are available for review under NDA upon request.

Absolutely. Sample shipments of approved or catalogue products are available in 2–5 kg quantities, shipped as frozen via express air freight. For new ODM development samples, we ship at cost — typically 3–5 kg of each iteration — and the freight is invoiced at standard DHL or FedEx frozen express rates. We encourage client teams to evaluate samples in their own ovens before committing to commercial volumes.
